Our 2006 Projects:
|
|
*UOCFP Scholarship Fund:
This is not a true scholarship, as it is free for Ukrainian orphans to attend state run colleges
and Universities. This is a "stipend". What is not supported by the government are the students living expenses; things like housing (in some cases, but not all), food, clothes and shoes, textbooks, school supplies and medical costs like Doctor, Dentist or Optometrist visits. It also covers any prescriptions or eyeglasses if needed. So this fund is more of a stipend to cover actual living expenses. Although we had no luck with raising any funds for this project in the past, we still hope to sponsor 10 students at a cost of $10,000.00 in 2006. This project will help support the "HUHTC, or Priyateli Ditey" Stipend Fund in Kiev, Ukraine.
*Summer Camp Project:
This project helps support a summer camp for orphans in Western Ukraine. The camp,
called "Forest Bell" is home to 100 children ages 4 through 17. The summer camps throughout Ukraine are essential as many orphanages close down, or have very limited services and activities for the orphans during the summer months. It is common for some orphans to travel to different ones during the months of July and August. In 2005 we bought art and crafts supplies, pens, pencils, writing paper, books, toys, sports equipment and some personal items for these children.
Ukrainian Government funding is often late, or doesn't even reach the Directors of these
camps. In 2006, we hope to completely sponsor this camp, so that it will be certain that it will be held. This will certainly be an ongoing project well into the coming years. We need to raise $3,000.00 for this project.
*Film Project:
This project was started during our 2005 Humanitarian trip to Ukraine. This is a 30-min.
documentary film (DVD) about the situation in Ukraine concerning these children. Currently it is in the editing stage and will be available soon. Although it will be completed this year (2005), we will still need to distribute it and get it out to the general media to promote our cause. So this will be an ongoing project well into the year 2006 and possibly beyond. We would like to have $250.00 to $500.00 to cover production & distribution expenses.
*Makiivsky Orphanage for HIV Children:
This was basically a forgotten and very poor orphanage in Eastern Ukraine. We made it a
priority to cause world attention to this orphanage and it has received an amazing amount of help from all over the world. Broken washers and dryers were replaced; tons of clothing, medical supplies and foodstuffs were received. Our story in numerous publications brought so much attention and relief, even we were stunned. As many other groups have begun to help, this project will close this year.
*Ukraine Humanitarian Treks:
Every year we travel to Ukraine and personally visit as many orphanages and summer camps
as we can. We have been to both Western and Eastern Ukraine. We give each one $200.00 USD in cash, and bring as much needed necessities as we can directly to the orphans. Of course if we had more to give, we would. This will always be an ongoing project, as the need will surely always be there.
*Project HELP Rebuild:
As we have seen on our visits, the orphanages are in bad shape and many need extensive
repair and modernization. This project fund will cover the costs to rebuild, fix and repair, purchase new things like the worn out mattresses, broken windows, bad plumbing and more. If we are successful with receiving any grants, as this project will require many funds, we will start it in 2006 and our first orphanage will be "Koropets", near the town of Buchach. We do have honest and worthy individuals in Ukraine who are ready to help us make this project a reality. This is our most ambitious project as of yet, but it is one that really needs to be implemented as soon as possible. For 2006, we need to raise at least $10,000.00 to get us started on this much needed project.
*Newsletter:
This will be an information and factual publication, sent to supporters and news media. This
will not only provide the most current information about the UOCFP, but also about the orphanages, (Directors and children), Ukrainian Government information concerning them, new ideas, events and more. This will also include info about HIV/AIDS and will be distributed in Ukraine. Currently, we have just begun working on this project. This will be produced 2 times a year and will be increased to 4 times per year and will be an on-going project. We need about $500.00 in 2006 to make this Newsletter a reality.
*One laptop per child:
This is about the new "$100.00 laptop" conceived by MIT's Nicholas Negroponte. His
organization (OLPC) and the 2B1 Foundation wants to get in the hands of every child in poorer countries their own personal, self powered and very durable laptop computer. I am convinced that this is a golden opportunity for our orphans in Ukraine. We will keep this closely monitored and promote our case to get one for every orphan 12 years old and older. Production won't happen until the end of 2006 or beginning of 2007, so we need to get things rolling as soon as possible in 2006 so we don't lose out on this incredible opportunity.
